Day 7

Day 7 - Smithers, BC to Stewart, BC/Hyder,AK
Miles today - 230
Total miles - 3135

After leaving Smithers, we came to the Moricetown Canyon, a place famous for salmon fishing.

We were a little early to see the salmon running but scenery was beautiful.

This is the turn off for the Cassier Hwy. As you can see, we are now headed "North to Alaska"!

We took a short detour to Gitwangak to see the Totem Poles. It is amazing to see the size and detail of these monuments.

This is past the turn off of the Cassier Hwy. onto 37A. It's the road to Stewart/Hyder. This is one of the most scenic roads of the trip.

This is our first glacier sighting - Bear Glacier. It was a bit breezy when we stopped to take a look!

Another unbelieveably pretty campsight! Although it gives you pause to see a warning sign about bears, we weren't surprised since we had also had our first bear sighting on the road into Stewart.
We set up camp in Stewart, BC and then went over the border (3 miles away) to explore Hyder. Alaska. It is a little town with dirt streets. Everything in town is really old but very interesting. Since it was July 4th, a small street festival was set up.
